On March 28, 2026, the 8th Asia Energy and Electrical Engineering Symposium (AEEES 2026) convened in Chengdu. The event was jointly organized by IEEE, PES, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), and Chengdu University of Technology, with the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at UESTC serving as the host. It received strong support from numerous domestic and international institutions, including Aalborg University (Denmark), the University of Calgary (Canada), the University of New South Wales (Australia), Wuhan University, Southwest University of Science and Technology, and Southwest Petroleum University.
As a significant academic gathering in the field of energy and electrical engineering in Asia, the symposium attracted nearly 300 experts, scholars, technical professionals from industry, and young researchers from around the world. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges regarding energy transition and innovative developments in electrical engineering. The event adopted a hybrid format—combining online and offline participation—to provide a comprehensive, multi-level academic platform for all attendees.

作为亚洲地区能源与电气工程领域的重要学术盛会,本次大会吸引了来自国内外近300名专家学者、企业技术骨干及青年学者,共同围绕能源转型和电气工程创新发展展开深度交流与研讨。大会采用线上线下融合模式,为与会者提供了一个全方位、多层次的学术平台。

3月28日上午,大会开幕。西南石油大学电气信息学院院长张安安教授主持了开幕式,大会主席、电子科技大学智慧电力与能源研究所所长胡维昊教授(IET
Fellow),大会程序主席、电子科技大学机械与电气工程学院副院长张真源教授先后致辞。胡维昊教授在致辞中强调了“双碳”目标下能源与电气工程的关键使命,期待通过大会凝聚智慧、深化协同,共同推动能源与电气工程领域的科技创新与高质量发展。张真源教授授介绍了大会筹备及议程安排,并期待通过此次会议搭建一个国内外学者与行业专家的高水平交流合作平台。
The conference opened on the morning of March 28. Professor Zhang An'an, Dean of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at Southwest Petroleum University, presided over the opening ceremony. Addresses were delivered by the Conference Chair, Professor Hu Weihao (IET Fellow)—Director of the Institute of Smart Power and Energy at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC)—and the Conference Program Chair, Professor Zhang Zhenyuan, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at UESTC. In his remarks, Professor Hu emphasized the pivotal mission of energy and electrical engineering in the context of the "Dual Carbon" goals; he expressed hope that the conference would foster the pooling of wisdom and deepen collaboration, thereby jointly driving technological innovation and high-quality development in the field. Professor Zhang Zhenyuan outlined the conference preparations and agenda, expressing his expectation that the event would establish a high-level platform for exchange and cooperation among domestic and international scholars and industry experts.

The keynote session was co-chaired by Professor Zhang An'an and Professor Wang Yu from Chongqing University. Three distinguished experts—Professor Bikash C. Pal from Imperial College London (IEEE-PES President-Elect, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and IEEE Fellow), Professor Dong Zhaoyang from City University of Hong Kong (IEEE Fellow and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering), and Professor Chul-Hwan Kim from Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea (IEEE Fellow)—delivered compelling keynote speeches, sharing their cutting-edge research findings in the fields of energy and electrical engineering. Professor Bikash C. Pal addressed the issue of power swings under the current limits of grid-forming converters, analyzing technical pathways for stability control and protection in power-electronic-dominated power systems. In his presentation titled "Data-Driven Battery Energy Storage System Health Estimation," Professor Dong Zhaoyang focused on data-driven health assessment for battery energy storage systems, proposing technical solutions for their safe and efficient operation throughout their entire lifecycle. Professor Chul-Hwan Kim, in his presentation "AC/DC Hybrid Distribution Systems: Recent Trends and Approaches," analyzed the development trends and key technologies of AC/DC hybrid distribution systems and outlined future pathways for distribution system upgrades.

In addition, the conference specially invited several young scholars—including Professor Li Xiaolong (Shenyang University of Technology), Professor Liu Shenquan (South China University of Technology), Dr. Mo Weike (Jinan University), Dr. Wang Qin (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Professor Wang Yu (Chongqing University), Associate Research Fellow Lin Chenhui (Tsinghua University), and Associate Professor Cui Qiushi (Chongqing University)—to deliver invited presentations based on their respective research fields. They shared their innovative achievements and practical experiences in energy and electrical engineering, thereby further enriching the academic depth of the conference and broadening the academic horizons of the attendees.
本次大会学术内容充实、形式多样。除主旨报告、特邀报告外,大会还设置了8场特邀报告、6场线下口头分会、7场线上口头分会以及3场学术海报展示等活动。研讨内容覆盖了高比例新能源电力系统需求响应、配电系统自愈技术、智能电网通信、电力设备安全管控、可再生能源高效利用等多个热点议题和交叉研究方向,为参会者提供了广泛的学术交流平台。
在会议期间,大会组委会还将评选出多个奖项,包括最佳青年科学家奖、优秀论文奖、最佳口头报告奖、优秀组织奖、优秀审稿人奖等,以表彰在能源电气领域作出突出贡献的青年学者和科研人员,激励行业同仁不断创新、务实深耕,务实深耕,推动领域的持续发展。
The conference features a rich academic program with a diverse range of formats. In addition to keynote and specially invited addresses, the event includes eight invited presentations, six in-person oral sessions, seven online oral sessions, and three academic poster sessions. The discussions cover various hot topics and interdisciplinary research areas—such as demand response in power systems with high renewable energy penetration, self-healing technologies for distribution systems, smart grid communications, safety management of power equipment, and the efficient utilization of renewable energy—providing a broad platform for academic exchange among participants.
During the conference, the organizing committee will present several awards—including the Best Young Scientist Award, Outstanding Paper Award, Best Oral Presentation Award, Outstanding Organization Award, and Outstanding Reviewer Award—to recognize young scholars and researchers who have made significant contributions to the energy and electrical engineering fields, and to encourage industry peers to pursue continuous innovation and dedicated, pragmatic work to drive the field's ongoing development.
